Hello all.....I'd like to start off by saying that I take full responsibility for whatever went wrong with Camp Betty Campout this year...and that I will work on fixing it and moving forward to next year....I know that are many, many talented musicians, fans and volunteers who were looking forward to the first ever Camp Betty Campout...and gave many hours and much energy to the creation of this new event. I'd like to take a minute and thank some very important people....
Ariane and Alison at True North Marketing without whom the idea of Camp Betty Campout would have stayed just that, an idea. I owe them all the thanks and gratitude I could possibly muster up.
Camp Betty Campout staff – Ariane, Alison, Lush, Aubree, Amy, Beth, Debbie, Connie, Kim, Lisa, Ty, Leif, Irene, April, Stacy, Kerry, Robin, Hoss, Tara, Peter, Brandon, Jerry, Anna, Jess, Jade, George, Ray, and Karma….and if I left someone off, I’m sorry you know I couldn’t have gotten this far without ya, a million thanks to you all!
My husband, Box – thanks for all the love and support, it’s more than I could ask.
All the volunteers - from Florida to Alaska, New England to San Diego, thanks for being willing to help create a place for women to be Powerful!
Our sponsors and donors, thanks for sharing in the Camp Betty Campout vision. With your help, the first ever Camp Betty Campout is going to be an amazing event! (even if it's in 2006!)
Katy, Carol, PB, Lincoln, Jody and Lisa and everyone who gave me advice, whether I followed it or not.
The Black Oak Family, especially Bob Barsotti, thank you for inviting us to have Camp Betty Campout on your beautiful land.
And finally, the folks who make up the rest of my family at my ‘other’ job at KHUM, KSLG and KWPT – Patrick, Mo, Isaac, Brett, Quinn, Jeff, Janet, Mike, Cliff, Larry, Joe, John, Amy, Mitch, Brenda, Monica, Digital Dan, Mossman, Jim, Matt, Don, Ron, Dan, Jennifer, Dave, Ashley, and Jessica….thanks for giving the me support!
And to make it clear....the reason why we had to postpone the event was because we didn't have the money to move forward. Due to bad timing on my part, we were unable to secure enough funds though sponsorships to support the festival without also needing to count on ticket sales. And we only sold 120 tickets...109 on-line and 11 locally!!! We had 4x the volunteers as ticket buyers, thanks to the volunteers, but we just could not afford to move forward with numbers like this....Just the land cost $10,000....and then there's building the stage, getting portapotties, the sound equipment, lights, power to the land, and the fees for the musicians, etc....I don't think most people are aware that this type of thing costs well over $150,000 to put on! We needed to sell 1,200 tickets to make it work, not 120.....if we didn't postpone the festival, we would of had over a hundred musicians on the land, no audience for them, and no money to pay them for their work (and that's just the tip of the iceberg)....as least this way the musicians are not working for nothing and have an opportunity to reschedule another gig for that time frame, as many of them are doing. I'm so happy that at least some of them are able to get something out of the weekend....
I will be paying for this attempt for years, already spent all that I had (willingly, to make CBC a reality) and I owe an amount that is equal to 80% of my annual income....what I'm trying to say here is that, I really wanted to create a space to celebrate music, arts and the outdoors....and it seems that I was not the only one....so in a couple of months there will be an announcement about a planning meeting for Camp Betty Campout 2006...if you are at all interested in helping create something amazing here in Northern California please keep an eye out for the announcement.
Once again, my deepest apologies to all that gave and put out towards this years event....know that the energy will be carried on to next year.
